Title: Fine Recording Article
Post by: ironbut on March 13, 2012, 12:35:21 AM
I've been browsing through the "Audio Record" pdf that I linked to as a reference of early tape machines in an earlier post.
The "Audio Record" was a new letter from Audio Devices who still produces lacquer disks for cutting records and used to make AudioTape.

If you read my previous post you may have downloaded the huge pdf of the "Audio Record" from 1945 to 1952 (336 pages in all!).
Tom Fine has pointed out an excellent article on Fine Recording which should be of interest to both fans of Mercury Records and old tape machines alike.
The article can be found on page 317 of the pdf as the featured story in the Nov-Dec 1952, Vol 8, number 8.

While you're waiting for the download, check out the site where I found the article referenced which is run by Chris Sanchez of Gold Coast Recorders. Lots of cools stuff and a great pic of Bert Whyte standing in the Fine mobile recording truck.

Here's another great article from Preservation Sound focusing on the Fine Mobile Recording truck.
Killer pictures (I love the picture of Eberenz below the massive 35mm mag film recorder. Almost looks like an optical illusion!).

BTW If you haven't already seen it, Tom Fine visited Preservation Sound and this article was the result (as linked in the above link).

That is very cool. I like the subtle ground wire hanging off the 35mm recorder.
