Title: Tascam 42B To Shop For Modification
Post by: rbwtapeinterlink-Bob on October 24, 2012, 09:20:16 PM
Good evening all,

Tomorrow I will be taking my Tascam in for changeover from NAB to IEC. We will also take a look at whether additional RCA's can be install on the rear of the deck so that I can use internal and external electronics. Although it doesn't look like there is room for additional RCA's we'll see. I am still hopeful that the playback heads will produce the kind of signal that will permit a tape head playback pre amp to provide high volume even with my modified Magnapan 1.6 speakers. I am very excited.

So have you secured a tape preamp? The wire from the heads on my deck will be a flying lead with male ETI (Eichman) Copper Bullet RCAs. As direct and short as possible, meaning routed across the deck through a grommet in the side panel straight to my Eros. They will be long enough to be plugged into the female WBT Nexgen RCA's mounted above the the XLRs that connect the stock playback amp. For testing or just to see theVU meters dance during playback, which will divert your attention awy from the lower fidelity blayback you forgot about since upgrading to a Bottlehead pre.

Enjoy!

Hello Listens2Tubes,

The tech/engineer who will be working on my deck will also build my tube tape head pre amp. We are looking at how to run the wires so that I will have proper connection to the pre amp. The concern I have presently is, the signal level of the play back heads of my tape deck. However, the fine gentleman working on my stuff is tops in what he does. I am satisfied he will do an outstanding job. I've told him to "take his time" even if it runs into months. I have the Tascam 32-2B which is switchable between IEC/NAB so no problems. I continue to have the ability to play tapes, but, without an outboard pre amp. I am indeed very excited about how this will turn out. Thanks for chiming in sir.
