I've posted some exciting news regarding reel to reel recording that were done in the loft of one of the fathers of photojournalism Eugene Smith. Here's a link to the post.

A little more info on what's happening with The Jazz Loft. Be sure and push the "view additional photos" button. A series of 21 photos (so far) that are classic Gene Smith. Man, I'd love to be working on that project!

I highly recommend listening to " Waltz for Debby" while viewing the photos.

To reply to my reply,.. Here's a great radio piece that came from the same source (Duke University,..CDS) on Monk. Scroll down to Thelonius Monk's southern roots and give it a listen. Great stuff going on at Duke.

Here's a sample of what's in store for us jazz and Eugene Smith fans in 2009. As you might have guessed, I'm very exited about this whole thing and I only wish that I had the chops to give these guys a hand at restoring these tapes and bringing this project to the public.

Go over and kick butt at the studio, Iron-um-but... I still have heard a *not* heard word yet about 2008's tapes. PS. And throw in two boxes of Uncle Ben's rice -- I think I may need some shims too. :)
While I have not looked at the link, that is good news for all of us as
people are looking back at the great music and ideas of the past.
