US$200 and local. I hope the guy hasn't sold it yet 'cause I want it.

Xavier,
It looks like an RS1700 quarter track auto-reverse version. You can fit a two track headstack on that machine if you have one.
-
Thanks Arian,
Do you think I can replace the "forward direction" head without replacing the whole headstack assembly?
-
Wow, $200 bucks,.. just as a parts machine would make it worth buying. I'm sure some of the parts that are particular to the 1700 would bring more than that on eBay.
-
I went to see it. The heads were awful. Since I really don't need another machine and this one would need some investment in time and money to put it at TP standards I walked away. I guess I have to start playing with the Tascam while my Technics returns from WA.
-
The real issue with the RS1700 is that the head block has no head selector switch. So you are stuck with only one type of playback head, and you can't do both 1/4 track and two track unless you steal a 2224 or 2422 head block from a 1500/1506/1520.

Sounds like a wise decision Xavier. Never listen to me when I'm on a buying spree! ( just ordered an electrostatic headphone rig for my Xmas present )
-
The lucky thing was that it was local for you to check it out.
Too bad now days you can't do the the same for the tapes you buy
off ebay.
Sounds of ... If you really want to buy yourself a early xmas gift ironbut,
I just saw a NAGRA IV-L on ebay. ... evil
