Title: back in the Tape Shed
Post by: docb on December 04, 2008, 03:11:56 PM
Eileen and I are at the studio for a couple of days, working with Paul and Romo and laying plans for our future series. We have some exciting titles for series 2, like

ooops, I'm not supposed to say what they are yet!

We're also working hard to get caught up on the current subscriptions. As I type this Romo is setting up a big stack of alignment tapes that were hung up for a couple weeks because we trouble getting the packaging together. So you guys who have been waiting for alignment tapes should be all set to twist screws and tweak meters when your next album arrives.

#$@!  I want doc's Chistmass tape now, you are recording it live right now??!! :)
Must a tape be all from the same artist, I was thinking of a tape with the same theam
but different artists/composers.  The Most tender Love Songs come to mind. Sure I can get the same music from readers digest, but some how I feel there must be better recordings for common music.
Some time later in the day ... Music and Candle-light  sounds like a better title.
Title: production status
Post by: docb on December 04, 2008, 09:33:46 PM
We took inventory and scheduled a catch up production run for all subscribers that will begin Tuesday. The plan is to catch everyone up thru TP-008, including all of you new subscribers, before we move ahead on the production of TP-009 and TP-010.

To give you an idea of what is involved, we scheduled about 100 hours for this duplicating run. Yup, that's about 2-1/2 weeks of duping to catch up all the new folks and pick up a few stragglers that got caught between past catchup runs. That's getting pretty close to one of our regular duping runs which runs about 150 hours these days. So it's not that we are ignoring you, it's just that we are pedaling as fast as we can.

With all this production, as you can imagine we are well past the halfway point of available serial numbers. We blocked out up to SN100 for charter members, and charter member number 88 just signed up today (Thanks Steve!). So if you want to reserve a serial number below 100 the time to take out your charter subscription for the current series one, the time to act is soon. That's not to say that you won't be able to get a set of all ten tapes. It's just that once SN89-100 are gone there can be no guarantee that all tapes you receive would have the same serial number.

Charter Member #083 here.  Thanks for the update, Dan.  I've only received TP001, and am looking forward to the rest.  I'm planning on spending some time this weekend replacing wear parts and recapping my B77, so this will be perfect timing.

Excellent update Doc. Personally, knowing what's happening really helps. I think that having regularly scheduled updates on what's slated in the tape shed would help to abate subscriber's anxiety and keep email inquiries to you and Romo to a minimum. I think it's interesting to find out some of the behind the scenes activity that goes into putting out these tapes too.

I am just hoping people like myself who don't live  the USA, gets
the tapes done earlier since the Christmas package rush has now started.

Thanks for reminding me Ben. I order lots of stuff online and sometimes the default shipping is done by media mail (USPS). During the holiday season, that can be insanely slow! I had a package one year that had to travel 400 miles (in state) and it took 6 weeks! It's worth upgrading shipping for a month.

Our shipping schedule is based upon the serial number and typically a batch of shipments goes out over a couple of days. No media mail here. We ship by UPS to subscribers in the US and USPS Global Express Airmail to subscribers worldwide.

Air mail ... Ha, I live in the country every thing takes days. As long as I get I shipping
notice, I can be home when the package is expected to show. The only problem I have
found is often need cash on hand to pay for customs duty, and I never know how much that is. Back to the real question.
So off hand how many of the titles for the second subscription been chosen already.
doc?
