Title: CES tape machine - Heeelp!
Post by: docb on January 07, 2009, 02:03:58 PM
After taking five days for a two day shipment and putting everyone in a panic, the shippers went out of their way to make sure that when they finally did deliver it our Otari had been pretty much destroyed. I just don't get it, we ship several machines out to customers without incident every month, but when they go to a show they never make it back alive. I am posting this on the minuscule chance that there is someone who might have brought a machine with IEC eq to CES, they can loan to us for the show.

I sent you an email but another alternative would be to ask someone from one of the film supply companies who rent location sound gear if they can get you one from LA.

I did a little searching and one source you might check is Location Sound. Marie had mentioned a while back that she'd used their gear before and seem pretty happy. The have Nagra 4s' for rent but of course you'd need to look into the availability of the large reel adapters.

Thanks Steve,

We're working on getting a backup Bottlehead machine sent down from the Bay Area and I have a very kind offer of a rental from a local studio as well, so one way or another I think we will be making some sound by tomorrow afternoon.

Create it well ... I have heard of crated equipment having a forklift
put a big hole through the boxing. :(

Those shows seem like they're saddled with the if anything can go wrong curse. Well, try and have some fun and at least you don't have to worry about driving over that dreaded pass heading into Oregon.
Hey, if you get a chance, see if you can get a listen to the Sonic Studios Amara. I'd love to know if it's as good as folks are claiming.

I plan to listen to Amarra quite a bit. In fact I'm having dinner with Jon Reichbach Fri night.

Well that news stinks.  I really wanted to see what you guys did to the stock Otari.  I have a bunch of them here but I don't know how I can drag it on the plane tomorrow if you know what I mean.  ;)
