Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Columbia R2R
« on: July 17, 2008, 08:35:20 PM »
The knob broke when I turned it (shattered into a few pieces).  I will give it a try to get the capstan turning and let you know.  Thanks for posting the picture, I tried and could not get it to show.  I believe this particular model is from the Vietnam time period.

Alright, I opened it up and took pictures.  I don't see the part you were talking about.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Columbia R2R rewinds, won't play
« on: July 16, 2008, 08:53:17 AM »
I have a Columbia (model C690TR) reel to reel player.  I do not know anything about these machines.  I opened the case and turned it on.  When there is no tape on the reels they both appear to spin fine.  When a tape is loaded the front reel does not pull the tape through, doesn't seem to be enough tension.  The rewind reel works fine, retracting the tape and playing it backwards.

I did a bit of research online and found that Columbia was made by Denon (a Japanese company).  There is just not a lot of information out there regarding this machine.

Any help and/or recommendations on where to get it fixed would be greatly appreciated.  I am located in Central North Carolina (in case you know someone around the area that repairs them).
