Tape Tech / Prerecorded tape EQ
« on: June 13, 2010, 11:23:15 AM »
New to this still and a little confused.  Did all prerecorded 71/2 4 track tape use NAB EQ?  The boxes don't let you know and you have the London's with FFRR or FFST among others.  If they didn't all use NAB, what did they use and how do you identify this?  Did certain brands all use one EQ vs. another?

Thanks in advance :)

Tape Tech / NAB EQ filter values
« on: April 13, 2010, 03:53:58 AM »
Hello,

I'm trying to find out the filter values to use in applying the NAB 7.5/15 IPS curve.  Could someone tell me the values for the bass pole, bass zero, treble pole and treble zero?  Or, just the right resistor and capacitor values to apply the curve.

Thank you,

Aaron

Thanks Steve.  Received and they open just fine.  I'll let you know what I come up with.

I'll tag another question on and hopefully someone is reading this thread.

The MKIII has a 5 pin cable running from the main unit to the reproducer head.  I'm thinking of making a cable to from the main unit to my McIntosh C22.  Can someone tell me the pin configuration?  Thanks!

Thanks Steve,

I have the operating manual for it.  Funny, I beleive there is an error in the manual as far as the calibration tapes are listed when compared to the MRL website.  The manual has for 7 1/2 ips MRL 21J205 and the MRL site has MRL 21T204 listed.  In short the Otari manual has the 7 1/2 ips tape listed for the 3 3/4 ips and the 15 ips tape listed for the 7 1/2 ips.  Is this correct??

The MkIII seems to be just a consol version of another player?  Is this correct and if so, I have an instruction manual for a BII.  I have a buddy who is going to test and allign the machine.  Is there any other manual he would need?

Thanks but it is not on this site.  My MkIII 2 is a 1/4" machine with 1/2 and 1/4 track playback heads.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Otari MX5050 MkIII 2 service manual
« on: May 01, 2009, 06:18:57 PM »
Hello,

I just sent an email off to Otari but was wondering if someone had an electronic copy of the service manual for a MX5050 MkIII 2 that they would be willing to share?  I wasn't able to locate one on the usual sites but may be looking in the wrong place.  Thank you in advance!

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Otari ARS-1000, canidate for
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:28:08 AM »
Hello,
New to R2R and need a little guidance.  I've been looking at the Otari MX-5050 series but I don't need most of the functions, specifically the recording.  I would like to find a great playback only unit.  Otari offered the ARS-1000 just for this and I'm wondering if it would be a good candidate?  Also, Doc or anyone else, would you be able to do the head mod on this unit for use with your preamp?  I'm assuming it wouldn't be too different from the other units they offered.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks,

Aaron
