Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Re: Teac A-3340S speeding
« on: June 10, 2009, 11:28:44 PM »
hey guys

I've got a problem with a nice old Teac A3340s : Its running too fast!

Not as much as turning the singers into chipmunks, but still..   its quite noticeable.

I'm a trained technician, but since I've mostly worked with the Akai W2W's (my favorite ;-)   those are the only ones I've got the service manuals for.

To my knowledge and experience (both of which are limited with the Teac machines) there is no speedcontrol in these machines ?

I really hope one of you guys will give me a hint, it really would be a shame not to get this machine on its feet properly again.

Thanks in advance!

regards,
kim

Kim... the reason your 3340 (happens in all versions) is speed is Teac's lubricant not remaining fluid over time... you need to oil the capstan shaft (2-drops), and you need to change the angle of the  solenoid spring from the 3 o'clock position to 1 o'clock... this takes some of the tension off and allows the solenoid's through out to do its job.

Do the above and you'll have a working 3340.
