I ended up just getting B manual straight from TEAC. It was around $35.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Wanted: Tascam 85-16 Function Select
« on: August 25, 2012, 04:15:17 PM »
Hi All!
I recently purchased a non functioning Tascam 85-16 which I poked and prodded for a couple months before realizing that it is missing its function select unit. It seems that they couple well with the remote controls and then the remotes wonder away from the machines, never to be seen again.
Anyone out there have one of these?
Also, does anyone know if these are the same function selects used for the MS-16?
Much thanks,
Morgan

I saw that, but mine is the A machine and apparently that manual is incomplete.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Teac 85-16 Service Manual
« on: August 30, 2011, 02:27:34 PM »
Hey all, I just purchase an 85-16 that I am told powers on, but has a non-working transport. I am hoping to to get this thing working starting with finding a service manual, but this is proving difficult. Does anyone have or know where I could find one?
Thanks.
Thanks.

thanks much for the input. that tape may be nice, but it is way out of my price range! I snagged the ampex I got for a buck forty a reel, but I suppose I'm getting what I payed for.
on another note. I have all this tape, but have trouble finding boxes to store it in. any ideas?

hi all,
I just purchased 25 reels of ampex 671 2400 ft tapes and was curious what the general opinion on this stuff is? I am wanting to use it for recording my band on my teac 4 track machine. for some reason it didn't occur to me that I would be sacrificing some width to gain longer playing time, but is this such a bad thing?
thanks much for the input!
