I've been putting RS15xx/1700 on my watch list for a couple of weeks now to try and put together a little buying guide. I happened upon an 1800 on British Ebay. I forgot that I was watching it until a few days after it ended. I was compiling data on the 1500's that had ended when Whoa! The 1800 started at 1 GBP and after 41 bids went for 3989 GBP ( that's $8144!) to a fellow in Holland. He has to be a collector. For almost half that, here's what I'd go for;
   Post subject: ampex atr-102 for sale 1/2" tape 
i have an excellent conditon ampex atr-102 1/2" machine for sale. it has mike spitz low freq heads, guides, etc. low, low hours on the heads. this is the machine for analog mixing and mastering.


$4500 or cash and interesting trades. no low end gear trades, please.
