Scott Dorsey's TP impressions
« on: January 08, 2009, 06:11:34 PM »
Well here we go folks. Here's a great impression from AES of the Tape Project by someone who knows what he's talking about. This quote is from the AES 2008 coverage on Positive Feedback and I'll let it speak for itself.

"Another interesting thing at the RMGI booth was a small display from the Tape Project. The Tape Project guys are selling 15 ips, half track dubs directly off of the master tapes of recordings from major labels. They are doing only limited production runs, real-time duplicated on ATR-100 machines by Paul Stubblebine. It's expensive, but it's as close to the master as you will ever get in your living room and a lot of folks have been investing in high grade 2-track machines just to be able to play back some of their tapes. Listening to the demo in the booth made it very clear that these people actually care about sound quality and they are willing to put their money where their mouth is.  This is one of the best things to happen to the audiophile world in ages."

Yeah, you gotta love a show review that ends with "Best Butt at the Show". I was there and there were plenty to choose from.
In my youth, I used to help a buddy doing promotional and stage props for MCA records. We made a " big ear" about twice that size for the band Golden Earring. Every kid in the neighborhood came over at one time or another to watch us. I think the best one was when we customized a pinball machine for a giveaway during an Elton John promo. I think that machine needed a rebuild by the time it left my buddies garage.
