Awesome restoration thread!

Unfortunately, this thread has yet to come to it's end but the "Ampex MM-1000 Story" is a joy, even if all you do is look at the pictures.
It almost makes me wanta drag a monster like this into my 3 bedroom duplex!

Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe Ki shouldn't look!

Warning, this is a boatload of bits so it may take a second or two to load.

Hi Steve:

Thanks for the link.  AMPEX world is still unchartered territory for me - fortunately.

It is an impressive MAN machine that makes all the other 2 track machines I have like toys...

On the other hand, if I were to bring one of these beasts home, I would be looking for a lawyer to fight for custody of our small dog...

Steve! Repent before you become like me.
(OK, when I lived in a bigger house in San Jose I actually had a 2" 24 track MCI waiting around for me to fix it.)

Funny you should say that. I was just at Chuck Booye's house to pick up an MRL tape a few hours ago and I noticed a 2" machine in the corner covered with crap. While I was walking back to my car, I almost turned around to ask him about it but got in my car repeating to myself " I have no business owning a 24 track..."

Whew,.. close call!
