Studer A-810 - where can I find paint to touch up?
« on: September 18, 2009, 05:43:58 PM »
Hello all:

I just had my Studer A-810 overhauled and it sounds great. I would like to touch up some small marks on the front. Does anyone know where to find the grey pain that Studer uses or have a number for it?

It's a good question...

The best answer is to order the paint from Audiohouse in Swiss.  I do have the Studer part number somewhere and will post when found.

The other option is to go to the Hobby Town USA (if you are in US...) with one of the front plates and match to their slot car spray paints that comes in a small can.  I got it pretty close when I mixed the spray can paint and another touch up paints from the Hobby Town and applied it with small paint brush.

Thanks for the answer. I would be very interested in the Studer number when you find it.

It is 1.918.011.00 desribed as gray paint for A807 and A812 but should work for your A810.
However, like all Studer stuff, it's expensive...  It's the smallest size at ~$70 and with shipping added to it, it will go over $100...  Hobby Town sounds better. ;-)

Went to the Hobby Town today to see about picking a touch up paint for the A80UV frame that has a bit of green tint.  There was a different color paint that looked very promising for A810.  It's color name is German Grey XF-63 by Tamiya.  By the looks of the paint in the little bottle, it is very close to the A810 color without mixing any other colors.  Will report how it matches.

How did the Tamiya model paint work on your A-810?

Well.  However, I had to get the FLAT BLACK  XF-1 and mix it into the GERMAN GREY XF-63.  The ratio was ~ two part flat black to ~ eight part grey to make it work.  If I had the time, I would also add glossy black 1 part, flat black 1 part and German grey 8 part to the texture to be better.  But the XF-1 / XF -63 was good enough - you can't tell from a distance about 3'.

The small bottles are not full so you can add them into the grey bottle.

Let me know how it works out for you.
