Capital Records Promo
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:39:43 PM »
Here's a very cool video with a couple of knuckleheads, played by Mel Blanc and Billy May, visiting Capital in Hollywood and their record pressing plant.
Try and guess when my minds ear heard "Excuse me Mr. Livingston but Mel Blanc and Billy May are here and I think they've been drinking."
The pressing plant visit goes into more detail than many of the other videos regarding this that I've seen before.

About 9:22 ! Very cool link ! Thanks !

A bit later in the film, looks as if they are still recording with the RCA ribbon mics rather than the later condensers shown in the pictures with Sinatra etc.  And, are those Ampex 300s or older? Also, although it mentioned Sculley lathes, I think it showed a Presto cutting head, not a mono Westrex. I have been told that early Capitol (78) records were cut with a Presto head. They were also describing the materials for a shellac 78 pressing. The person that told me about the Presto heads has another 16mm promo film about Capitol records that has a demo of tape editing.
