Well, that's the famous quote from Sam Warners' smarter brother.
Needless to say, the tale of the development of magnetic audio tape's sprocketed uncle is littered with characters and is not without interest to geekier magnetic tape fans.

This is a series of articles published by IATSE Local 695 and written by Scott Smith. Scott has long been a member of this forum and even though he hasn't participated in a while, his posts regarding machines and tape have always been valuable.
The series starts with the Spring 2009 as is titled "When Sound Was Reel" and can be found in each issue.

For those of us with Nagras or Stellavoxes, it may aid in the understanding of these machines and for fans of recordings which were produced on 35mm it helps to place them in the timeline of sound recording and understand it's use.
Personally, I feel that understanding these early days of sound recording and playback, no matter what the intended use was, is essential to understanding where we are today. And heck, I find it totally entertaining.
