Hi Chris,

i'm not one of the guys here who has technical knowledge; but those pictures are very impressive, thanks for sharing them. a battery powered repro unit makes perfect sense to me, i use a darTZeel battery powered preamp/phono and enjoy the refinement and low noise batteries bring. that is the same battery type that darTZeel (the NHB-18NS uses 4 of those) uses.

how would you describe the performance of this unit? from your description of it's design it should sound wonderful.

i've never seen switches that look like a combination lock before. is that a commercial product or something you built?

This would be an interesting upgrade for the battery-powered Nagra IV-S we're using, though measurements indicate it's the line output amp and not the playback preamp-equaliser that's the weakness.

Could you post more details about how it can be powered?  The Nagras can supply -12V unregulated or -10V regulated battery power, with the positive pole earthed to the chassis.

Fantastic Chris! I love those knobs too! I'm certainly glad you decided to surface and share your excellent work. Sure looks clean.
Mmm, two 812's! What kind of work do you do in your studio?

Oh my god, that's some beautiful work Chris! I like the Apple keyboard on the PR99. I'll look forward to hearing your other recordings.

Hi Chris:

You have very nice R2Rs.

Are you feeding the head outputs directly to your repro unit or going through the pre-preamp in A812 headblock first?

BTW, I remember using similar locking dial knobs for ten turn pots in machines I used to design as an engineer many years ago.

Hi Chris:

I am still taken by your work!

One of my A807s is an Archivist model with only repro head and would be a perfect candidate to try your preamp design.  If feasible, I would also use the same wirings to try Doc's full repro preamp at some future point.

Can you share your schematic?

Thanks,

Ki

Would it be possible to get a build of materials and a schematic of the circuit you made?  If you have a pcb layout (gerber file) that would be great.  I would love to make one of these!

Great work Chris! Would you like to share more on the pcb/scematics? I am also interested in a desription of the PR99 mod, to compare with what I did recently, as my way of no compromise. BTW did you remove the LC filter on the PR99 reproboard and how?
Best wishes,
Tod
