missing posts

Apologies to folks who may have seen their post vanish recently. We are hit by spammers every day, and recently we have seen a new tactic. The spammer will post content that seems relevant, for example Paul had posted a response in one thread and spammer cut and pasted a quote from that thread to create his own post about four posts down. At first it looks legit, until you see that there are links to "free liposuction" (I didn't even know that liposuction was in jail) and Disney superchannel (which I am pretty sure is also spam from some Asian country).

Anyway in one or two cases there was a followup response by an unwitting forum member, which I also deleted.

Those guys really know how to find their target audience.
I aways wish there was some way to link one spammer to another so their computers would call or email each other endlessly.
I had a mail order prescription company that I dealt with for quite a while. Somehow during one of my orders, the computer did something that resulted in my having a 1 cent balance that I owed them. I was paying with a credit card so they did all the billing and charges to my card. I was getting notices every month for about 7 years until I changed insurance companies. I had a stack of those notices (they were sent in the mail with a return envelope) about 8 inches high and I always meant to send them back with a check for the 1 cent but I lost interest.
There are some anti scam groups that are pretty funny. They lead the scammers on and on in an endless stream of excuses, committing and then backing out until the scammers just plain give up in frustration. The guys on those web sites compare how long they were able to drag the whole thing out and  post pictures that they've convinced the scammers to take of themselves and make fun of the ridiculously bad doctored photos they get. You almost feel sorry for the scammers until you remember that they're trying to steal your money.

If you simply write on their envelope "return to sender" the post office will send them back -- and bill them for the postage!
